I’m CEO of a company that offers a Managed Service for the IT needs of radiologists – our clients are RCA and EFW radiology, and through them we are handling all of their clinic requirements. As well, RCA is now offering remote interpretation for the East Central Health Region for X-Ray, ultrasound, and mobile MRI; they are also offering the same service for Aspen Health Region for mobile MRI. We use the Supernet as our network to carry the images and reports between the hospitals and our interpretation centres in Calgary. All of the process is electronic, and the benefit has been a significant increase in turnaround time: in the analog-only world, the report turnaround time was 3-10 days – with our solution, we typically return our reports in a few hours. This has directly impacted patient care positively and we can cite examples of where this has been especially crucial in discovering medical issues that otherwise may not have been addressed in a timely fashion.
