Our thanks to ADETA,
our generous website hosts!
I have had to result to Dial-up with my secondary provider due to the fact that in the summer the trees between my home in Onoway and the tower have leaves and my wireless high speed does not connect. I need line of sight.
In addition, the phone lines in Onoway, provided by Telus do not enable best dialup speeds. As a result my download speed is 26kbps and my upload is 46 kbps. I believe this to be typical in rural communities.
Summer Village Nightmare
As of April 1 2008, the broadband WISP serving the Summer Villages of Sunrise Beach and Sandy Beach, saw access to the land which housed their wireless access point, suddenly terminated by the private land owner. After five months of negotiations with the Summer Village of Sandy Beach and their lawyers, an agreement to place a new tower on municipal land could not be reached and negotiations were halted. Despite encouragement from the County of Lac Ste. Anne towards the Summer Village to continue negotiations. The Neighboring Summer Village of Sunrise Beach has been openly hostile to the prospect of allowing a tower on village land and has refused all requests from frustrated rate payers to help restore, what many residents consider an essential service, to the community. We have been left with few options other than dial-up service over unreliable phone lines and ineffective/highly priced satellite service. Not being fortunate enough to live in a Supernet community, and with no help whatsoever from local elected officials we have been left in the dark.
